Covered, With Love

Cover me,
Engulf my body
Fill me with your warmth
And comfort my fears—
The world disappears
As you cover me...
Something else appears
Beneath the folds of your warm
Beautiful dreams, shinning stars
I carry you to the edge of the earth
And back beneath your hiding place.

As the Rain Falls

Warmth surrounds
As the rain falls
Cold and wet drops
Gray skies overhead--
But the sun shines on me
And I embrace the pitter-patter
Constant and comforting;
A smile creeps on my face
As the rain falls.

Look at the sky
As the rain falls
Muted light illuminates
Soft billowing clouds
Pass me by
But I watch in peace
As drops trickle down my face
Refreshing and cool
I enjoy the change of pace
As the rain falls.

The Gift Time Stole

Can I be still for a moment--
Listening to the sound of the wind
How it passes gently through the trees...
Can I be still--just this one moment
Silence: the sound of the passing breeze
How it flutters around me with such ease
And I--helplessly falling to my knees...

A slave bound to time
Unable to be still
For the world will not stop
Work to survive--
     to just get by
But I'm looking for something beautiful
Something I know is right.

What is this stillness?
This quiet moment overwhelms--
Peace, like a lily
     heavy in the morning dew
Peace, like the dream that always comes true
And I--still in this moment waiting--
Starring out at the horizon, blue
Waiting for the clarity I accrue...

Let go of time
Let it stand still
And when you stop
For moment passing by
The world is beautiful
The world feels right.

Childhood Days

Ice cream dripping,
And the fizz of soda bubbling--
Cold melting together
Under the heat of the summer sun...
The smooth taste of cream
Undermined by the spark of soda
And the bubbles tickle my nose.
The sweet smell of vanilla burning
While the clouds move in, rolling--
Another summer day spent.

When Spring Comes

My dearest Spring,
I've missed you these past few months
Felt your absence in the chill
Of Winter's unfriendly embrace
And longed for your return...
Time passes slowly when you're gone
With unsightly views obscuring
Precious memories of you ripped away
By the season of death and despair.
Oh, how I missed your color
Your bright beauty bequeathed to me
Beneath beautiful blue skies
And warm weather trends.
I was starting to think
You had abandoned me,
Left me, with no intent of return
But I would mourn you forever
     Pollen and all--
I cannot live without you,
You are my season
My rock,
My sanity,
My heart,
And my joy.

Sweet Comfort

Warm in my blanket
Shielded from harsh light
Protected from cold winds
I wrap myself in soft fleece,
Feel the comfort seep in,
Like quiet meditation.
Drift away in to peace
Calm mind and scenic images
Entertain my eyes
Hidden behind the dark.
A piece of heaven
Wrapped around me
As I lay myself down to sleep.

Memories

Thoughts drift,
To times less complex,
To faces, to memories
To people I miss
And images fade
Over time, worn away
Wait for the pieces
To reappear.

Reflection of the Past

Dirt, caked on dark fingers
Scarred and calloused,
Bare and bruised--
The same gentle fingers
Softly braiding my hair...
Scrawled words, inked carefully
Traced slow into the paper's fold
Small, delicate words
Of an education cut short
Rendered unnecessary and left behind...

A warrior of immeasurable standard
Brave and fearless,
Unwilling to to mar the soul
With the damage of the body
But to pass on it's beauty...

The legacy of fortitude and strength
A powerful awakening
Rooted deep in the tree of life
Blossomed with the immortal flower,
And I was born of her...

Escape

Blue water
Rushing against
Warm sand,
A soft breeze
Gently,
    gently,
        gently
             Blowing in the night.

Black sky
Silently watching
O'er a blue moon
And sparkling stars
Blinking
    Twinkling
         Glittering
               Wishing in the night.

A Piece of Me

The soft sound of rain
Slowly dripping--
   Dancing outside my window
Steady.
A constant hum lulling
A mother's lullaby
   Sweet sorrow intertwined
Steady.
Calm words and melodies
Formed from the pounding of drops
    Exploding upon my roof
Continue on through the night
Rock my cradle, repel my fears
Come steady me
    Gently in the night.

Those Eyes

Dark,
Expressive
Full of joy and life
I look upon those eyes
And see everything I am...

Meditating,
I look for those eyes
Eyes I've never seen before
But I know them well
And they knew me,
Before I knew myself.

Comfort me,
As I look into those eyes
Tell me my future--
Guide me--
For there's strength there
Linger in those eyes.

Beautiful Day

Worry --
Beads on my arm
Like a sticky heat--
Uncomfortable beads
Rippling down my forehead,
Roll of my lashes
And burn my eyes
At the rising of the sun.

But I turn away,
Let the orange and yellow
Flood my pupils
Erase my mind
And reset my pulse...

Calm--
Chirped melodies
Drifting through my ears
Tickle my soul
And pull my strings,
Up--
      out of the covers,
Out--
     into the world.

Conflict of Interest

A chill, a shiver--I shudder;
My body wasn't meant for this.
I was destined to be born elsewhere,
Destined for a warmer climate--
The desert heat and scorching sun
My body was made for that
Built to protect me from harmful rays
And to flourish in the summer sun,
Not to shudder in ice or snow.
My body doesn't know how to react to this
And its acting out in spite of itself

Lullaby

Close your eyes and see the world
Close your eyes and lock away
All the things that make you cry:
Fear not, for I am here

Dream--
Dream a good dream
Somewhere away
       from here
Build a new world
Build it without
      your fears
Sleep
Sleep

Dream
Dream

Wishes

I wish I could wipe away your tears,
Hold you in my arms and protect you
That I could stand for you
When your knees buckled
And your legs failed...

I wish I could make you forget
Everything that was out to hurt you
That I could show you hope
When everything grew dark
And keep my promises...

I wish I was stronger
Able to carry away your problems,
That I knew the right words to say
When all was said and done
And time had run out...
