Broken History

Dreams are the privilege
        of those who sleep—
Sound and restful moments,
But I don't sleep.
When I close my eyes,
Light gives way to darkness
and in the darkness I hear
The slow and deliberate cracking
        like glass shattering
The echo of clanking and tinging
As the pieces of my heart fall to the floor
I need the Light to find all the pieces
The heat of its fire to melt them back together.
But I never get it back the way it was,
There's always a blemish
a missing piece that just wouldn't fit.
And the fire...
Remnant flames that won't go away—
Can I channel the flames into emotion—
Make moves, start a revolution?
Or will I close my eyes and dream.

Thunderous Sky

Lightning flashing quick
Outside my window now
Yellow sparks do fly

Celebration

Sound crusading out of a wave
Clearing the path--leading...
Bursts of light,
Fire falling and sparkling
Shimmering dreams
Innocence of a star's baby
Captured and paraded
In pomp and fanfare
Against the black sky
Obstructing the star's themselves
If for only a moment.

Elements: Fire

Strong, red blaze
Dancing before me
Flexible in its own right
But unyielding
To strangers passing by...
Warm and defiant
Bold immortal blaze
burning bright in the night
Light the way,
Clear the path
And heat eternity.

Fire

Warm flames set in hot bricks
Atop gray ashes and black coal,
Orange light radiating forward
Untouchable beauty
    just beneath my fingertips--
Dance with me,
Around and around
Melt away the cold of the world
But keep your distance,
Shy away from my touch;
Linger in the distance
And be with me.

Stoic Streams

The flush of heat beneath my skin
Gives way to the grit of my teeth
And I see fire burning in my eyes
--I can't stop myself from screaming out
My hands are not mine to control
The lashing and the thrashing,
It's my voice but my anger's words...
Twisted frustration untangling itself
A futile attempt at snapping back
The desire of its original shape
--But its origins are lost in boiling blood
Replaced with raging reds,
Silenced by stoic streams--
Silent containers of my inner turmoil,
Pumping anger from my veins
Dispelling my toxins.

StarFire

At night, when light fades
And darkness prevails,
I gaze up at the star filled sky
In wonder...
And I wonder,
Up there--out yonder,
Death is a brilliant firework
A beautiful remembrance
Of a light burning out.
How can fire be so beautiful?
And I can only hope
When my time comes,
I burn brilliantly--
Overwhelm the world in passion
And explode in a blaze.

Enjoy the Moment

a distant firework
flashes in the sky
a blast of light
trailed by soft sparkles
of fire raining down...
and I almost missed it--
almost didn't take the time to look
